Cagliari Calcio digital transformation and the role of Abilitya

Cagliari F.C. is a Serie A football club (season 23-24) that ascended to the top tier by winning the playoffs in 2023. With a strong regional identity, the club attracts national attention, particularly in sponsorship endeavours. At the beginning of 2024, the club started a digital transformation in communication, aiming to enhance its digital presence across all platforms, from the website to the app.

The challenge

Since the Serie A promotion, Cagliari F.C. seeks to amplify its digital transformation efforts and capitalize on new economic resources. The club aims to enhance fan engagement, attract new sponsorships, and explore innovative sponsorship opportunities beyond traditional models.

Introduced by Infront, a global leader in sports marketing, Abilitya has been identified as the ideal partner to amplify Cagliari F.C.'s digital transformation. Abilitya is instrumental in accompanying the club in the creation of its new official app, slated for launch in early 2024. Additionally, Abilitya collaborates with the club in defining editorial and social media marketing strategies to boost fan engagement and attract new sponsorships.

Abilitya is actively involved in two key areas to support Cagliari F.C.'s digital transformation.

The first area involves the development of the club's new official app, which is based on the Football App model provided by Abilitya. The app is integrated with other Abilitya platforms such as Phygital and S.O.S. (Sponsors Operating System).

Launched on February 22nd 2024, Cagliari Calcio App serves as a central hub for fan engagement and communication. The app aims to provide fans with a seamless digital experience thanks to the integration with the club’s Single Sign On for first party data collection, while offering valuable content and features to enhance their connection with the club.

Abilitya assisted the club throughout the setup process, offering support in content creation and in planning the launch strategy.

The second area of involvement is the design of a sponsorship strategy and innovative opportunities: In collaboration with Infront, Abilitya is exploring new sponsorship opportunities beyond traditional models. By designing packages based on the concept of "moments" and touchpoints, Abilitya aims to increase the interaction between sponsors and the club's fans, opening new avenues for sponsorship revenue.

Through collaborative efforts, Abilitya and Cagliari F.C. are positioned to create innovative digital solutions that will elevate the club's presence and revenue-generating capabilities in the ever-evolving sports landscape.
